If you’re looking for the best steps to becoming a daily reader then you’re in the right place. Sometimes people set high expectations for themselves because of how fast other people are going through books. Or they want to read the same number of books as someone else. 

So the most important thing to keep in mind when starting your reading journey is to read at your own pace. 

Set Goals for yourself 

According to my google research It takes the average person 2 minutes to read a page and 5 hours to read a whole book. 

But I think the best way to find your speed is to time yourself as you are reading. So that way you can set realistic goals for yourself in completing a book. 

It is so easy to get intimidated when there’s content with people reading 7 books in a week. Or x amount of books in 24 hours. Setting reading goals for yourself should be fun, it should be for you. Not a competition. 

Also set challenges 

Setting challenges like reading themed books. Maybe you want to read Historical Fiction all week. And Romance the next. Having a theme in place can make it more exciting to follow through with reading a little everyday.  

How to Make Time for Reading

The problem most people have is finding time to read. It’s easy to get bogged down in your daily routine and forget about doing anything for yourself. But if you want to read more, it’s essential that you carve out some time every day where reading is the only thing on your mind.

You need a dedicated block of time where everything else stops and all eyes are on the book in front of them.

If you’re commuting by public transport you could try reading during those times. I personally get self-conscious if I have a physical book in public so for this reason I carry my Kindle. I feel like people are less likely to judge if you’re staring at a screen rather than a book. 

Most common is to add reading to your morning and night routine- Waking up an hour before you usually do to fit reading in or half an hour before bed.

Where to Read

Reading is a great way to relax and enjoy yourself. You can pretty much read anywhere. 

The most obvious and common place is at the library. However I have seen so many instances where people just open up a book randomly in the most noisiest places. So ultimately it depends on your comfortability. 

Sometimes people can’t concentrate if they are around distractions so reading at home is ideal, since it’s the most comfortable and familiar. Just like how setting up a work space at home can help you be more productive in your work, You could do the same for reading. Like having a reading chair or couch. Making a cup of hot chocolate or coffee. 

Organizing Your Reading List

You can also try organizing your reading list. You’re most likely to read everyday if you are excited about the books you compiled. As you start to build your reading list, it’s important to organize it in a way that works for you.

Reading is a great way to relax, but it can also be a serious commitment. If you’re going to make time for reading, then make sure that you’re making the most of your reading time.  

Choose a comfortable place to read. It doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive–just somewhere where you feel at ease and won’t be interrupted by others or technology. That might mean lying on your bed with pillows stacked behind your head (and maybe even under them), sitting at an outdoor café table with coffee in hand, or curling up on the couch with a blanket after dinner while everyone else watches TV in another room. Whatever makes sense for your lifestyle! 

Turn off all distractions when starting out on any new book–this includes phones and computers! You’ll get more out of what’s happening if there aren’t any other distractions around demanding attention from either yourself or others nearby who might be tempted by whatever shiny thing popped up on their screens during this important moment of literary discovery…

Take breaks when needed; don’t force yourself through something that isn’t working for whatever reason just because “it’s good” according to someone else’s opinion (or even yours). Try switching genres instead–you might find something else equally enjoyable once enough time has passed between readings so as not to spoil anything which would otherwise leave us feeling disappointed if we knew ahead-of-time what happened next! Or maybe try reading aloud instead?
